This article is about Homes for Disabled people and ADA Home buying. I am a realtor who is disabled and in a wheelchair full time. I currently live in a home I own that was modified by the department of labor for wheelchair and ADA access. I have represented buyers in need of these accommodations when buying a home. I have personal experience with most matters involved with wheel chair access. Please contact me if you wish to talk to me about representing you and finding the best home for you that is ADA compliant and/or wheel chair accessible.
Finding a home that is universally-designed for wheelchair-accessibility can be even more difficult. Since there is no overarching law that requires the construction of barrier-free homes, growth in this segment is sporadic and driven by the individual home buyer’s needs. Thus there is no guarantee that a home labeled as wheelchair-accessible meets the requirements of the ADA (or VA requirements). Because of this, it is difficult to know if a home will be suitable without visiting it.
